Recently, a married couple came into Tapped Apple for the first time. They found a handsome tasting room, recently doubled in size. They saw the sparkling silver fermentation tanks. The husband tried a glass, but the wife hesitated. “I’m not going to like it,” she said. But co-owner John Wiedenheft IV insisted. He offered her a glass of Watch Hill White, and the wife was startled. “That’s amazing!” she exclaimed. “I thought apples had sugar!”

“Well,” rejoined John, “so do grapes.”...

Westerly — It’s a routine question at the Tapped Apple Cidery & Winery.

“People will ask, ‘Where do you get your grapes,’” said John Wiedenheft IV, Tapped Apple’s chief operating officer. “And we tell them, ‘It’s apples, not grapes,’ and they always say, ‘Well, it tastes like a grape wine.’”...

Although we have always had "Cidery" in our name and our "First Bite" Cider has been available for the past two years (on tap), during the time of COVID we focused on increasing our cider line and making our cider available in cans...

Tapped Apple Winery has been in the works for the last few years and opened its doors a couple of years ago, but the owners’ passion for wine and their winemaking process goes back even further than that. It began around 2004, with John H Wiedenheft III, his son John IV, and John’s friend Adam Mercer (sometimes referred to as John 4.5) started looking to create something for themselves to enjoy while sitting at home by the fireplace...
